Boondocks is always fun with a great atmosphere. The panko wassabi crusted tuna appetizer is great. We were happy with our dinner and had a good time. We also visited for Trivia Night, which is always a fun time, can't beat the $5 bang bang shrimp

Review strictly for the restaurant. Visually, this restaurant is definitely eye catching driving my way to or from the keys. This place is HUGE, bigger than you think. A big and long connected tiki hut style to a mini golf course and they have a gift store. Pretty cool stuff. This is an outdoor restaurant with a bar upstairs and more seating and tables down below where you find yourself in front of a band stage. I am a huge fan of the setup. We had a party of 5 and have never been here before. They have a pretty regular menu and an extensive drink menu. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, bang bang shrimp, crab cakes with mango salsa and some sandwiches. The food was okay. A little too pricey for the taste and size of the food. The crab cakes were pretty good though. But it's only two. The bang bang shrimp however tasted like someone just poured some hot sauce on the shrimp and that's it. Service was okay. Our waitress was quick but did not check on our table as much. I do not really recommend the restaurant to but I think this place would be good for drinks and friends looking for a good time and live music.

Great tourist attraction if you want to play mini golf in the keys, it's the only one.... I'm guessing for a reason. A tiki bar with a retail store charging 400% over costs. It is no means a reasonably priced place for drinks or dinner. I've compared prices between all the local places in the area as this is home for me. Most of the prep work for meals is done way to early not allowing substitutions or changes. All of the meals (10 maybe) that I've had have been sub-par. I was there for the music so I did my best to enjoy. The straw that broke the camels back for me is the fact that they started hiring out of town musicians because they are cheaper. Now we have to pay top dollar for beers and drinks and listen to musicians that couldn't make it in Nashville and are contracted out through a promoter. An older classic place that's been purchased and changed for the worse.

This place wasn't all that great and feels like a tourist attraction and not like a good restaurant. But I was in a sour mood here because I got really sun burnt. I was even experiencing hot and cold chills, so you can dismiss my opinion if you think my mood was overbearing and what not. My partner and I were staying in this area of the keys and not far from here. We decided to stop for dinner on our way back. We were seated quickly and the servers and staff were friendly and nice. When we went to order, my fiance wanted a burger that the menu said had american cheese on it. We aren't big on american cheese, so we asked to switch the type of cheese. The server said that the chef didn't like substitutions like that but he'd ask. I understand restaurants not wanting to make substitution when it could cost them a lot. Hmmm, instead of fries, I'd like the coconut shrimp. Obviously the cost there would be absurd, but a slice of cheese? The waiter never said anything about the request to change the cheese but the burger came with american cheese. I wanted to order a special pizza but it had red onions on it and was made in advanced so they couldn't customize that either. Both of our meals were just okay and I felt so sick that I lost my appetite. I remember liking the fries, and we didn't try any seafood (which was too pricey for us), but I'm sure they have some good things on the menu. I was reminded of Margaritaville here. There is a stage with bands playing and an island party atmosphere that you expect at a resort on the beach. But we stayed in the keys (outside of Key West) for the small town feel and not a touristy experience. Had I felt better, I would have tried the mini golf. If we return to the keys, we'd come here for drinks and mini golf, but I would go elsewhere for dinner and desert (their frozen Key Lime Pie wasn't impressive either but it's not house made).

Just to be fair, I've tried this place for both lunch and dinner a few times each, and I still come to the same conclusion. It's basically bar food that is priced like a 5 star restaurant. Consistently, every time I have gone there(by myself or with my vacationing friends), it seems like the wait staff is confused in regards to where they're going to seat you.....I'm NOT a fan of them not wanting me to sit down front so I can relax and enjoy the music, as they appear to be "holding tables"......NOT COOL!! The service could definitely improve overall.

Boondocks is a palm frond roof chickee hut style open air bar and restaurant. There is a lower ground level seating area as well as a gift shop. The original structure portion is an additional stilted 2nd story bar with high top seating that connects the two floors with a wide staircase. There is a full bar as well as beers on tap and bottle. Multiple TV sets reside above the bar and along the top of the lower chickee hut area for game day events. (see pics) This review is short as we just stopped in for a beer on this particular visit. The bartender was pleasant and the beer cold, but not at that ah ha cold temperature. The restaurant and bar area were clean and appeared well maintained. The women's bathroom is one of the nicest and cleaner bathrooms that I have been in on a stop in or out of the Keys. Boondocks is on the southbound side of the road. There is a put put miniature golf course right next to it on the left side of the restaurant.

Loved the atmosphere. Large open air restaurant and bar. Many TVs if you want to watch sports I had the crab Mac and cheese which was just OK. Not enough to share as indicated on menu. Strong crab flavor but there were many shells which was annoying My husband had the crab and asparagus soup which was tasty and full of crab along with a half grilled cheese. The sandwich wasn't hot enough so the cheese wasn't melted much. Nice music and the menu is extensive. Think we picked the wrong items. Would give it another chance.

More like a Boondoggle. 6:15 PM and the restaurant is probably 80% full. Took ten minutes for the receptionist to recognize us - even though we were the only party in line. Strike one. Nice menu - great selection of fish. Server described the local catches nicely (we're from out of town and had never heard of hogfish et al). Took our order after reasonable amount of time. Ball one. Eight ounce plastic drink cups. Filled half with ice doesnt yield much to drink. Believe me, numerous refills of soda water. Eight ounce plastic? Strike two. I ordered grilled chicken breast with side of mashed potatoes and seasonal rice. Very limited sides. Wife ordered good ol' hamburger. Hers looked fine. My chicken looked like the bbq marked breasts you get at Costco. Didn't taste bbq'd but was grilled dry. No bbq or other sauce. A cilantro pico did come with the dish. Rice was nice. Mash looked like a greenish-brown lump. Tasted like the skins weren't washed. One forkful was enough to decline further. Strike two and three. No bread or other accompaniments. To his credit the server noted our displeasure and brought out the team manager. After a couple of minutes of banter he comped the chicken and apologized. One hungry and tired traveller's opinion. YMMV!

Food is not the best ever but it is good grub for a great price. Service is topnotch. Drinks strong. Atmosphere really cool. Definitely we stand behind our recommendation and 5 stars. This is going to be our hangout.

RJ and I came here after we stopped at Kiki's Sandbar and couldn't get any service. At Boondocks we were greeted and waited on the second we sat down. A band was playing up front and the bar is open and airy. I drank the Pain in the Ass, pina colada mixed with rum runner. and we ordered the Grouper. RJ had blackened and I ordered Rosemary Garlic, which is apparently the same exact thing as blackened. I advised the bartender that this was blackened and she said no, that it was the rosemary. Um, I know what rosemary is, and this wasn't it. I just ate it anyway and it was delicious, but not what I wanted. Other than that, the service was great, the food was great and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. Would be a 5 if I got what I ordered!

We had caught our own fish and it wasn't going to make it home, so we stopped here where they would cook it for us. They did a great job, and the sides were inexpensive and tasty.

Great atmosphere. Great food. Kids liked it, and the service was fast. I've loved Boondocks since the 90's and I'm glad to see that it's still going strong!

Really enjoyed this place! It was perfect to watch a game on the TVs while being entertained by a great live band! The customer service was wonderful. Even though they were slammed busy- the wait staff kept us updated on our order and drinks while we waited. The food is good and large portions. We will be back to play mini golf!

Our family of 13 stopped in for lunch, and we are so glad we did! The manager, Chad, is entertaining, and has lots of info about the area. Thanks to Tracy, and Boondocks in general, for really good food and drinks, and a great time!

Got the lobster bisque it was fine. Liked the open seating. Service was quick even when it was packed. Thee are 10% off coupons from the local resorts so check those out before you head here. I feel their beers selection was good and they seems to have good daily specials (usually bar food).

Small portions for too high prices. The money no doubt goes to the dressing of the place and the flood of sport screens. Overrated.

This place was recommended by someone working in a local store. Being a Monday it was busy but not packed. We sat in the upper level dining room rather than floor level. That kept us far enough away from the music that we could hear each other. The music was fine..it was an open mic night...but we prefer to be as far away as possible. Our server was still in training. There was a manager working with him and the manager came over a couple of times for our opinion on how the server was doing. As to the food....we both had grilled mahi mahi but had different "go withs". Everything was well prepared and well presented. We had to remind the server about a couple of things we had requested and they were promptly provided. When the check came, we had a wait for our change. The server apologized for the wait...he is still in training and does not have access to the payment system yet If you are on the area, this is a great meal choice. We did not go into the gift shop or check out the mini golf that is part of the facility so have no opinion regarding them.

Great service!! Dinner special was awesome! Highly recommended by Melissa. Didn't give me a choice on what to order, and very happy she didn't. The atmosphere is great. Impressed with how clean the bathrooms were. Will be back again and again.

On a recent drive down to Key West my wife and I spied the sign for Boondocks and decided to give them a shot. As others have said this place is basically an island-themed sports bar attached to a mini golf course. There's also a big stage for live music and a gift shop for the tourists that probably make up a bulk of their business. But before I dive into our dining experience I've gotta get something out of the way. When a place calls themselves a "draft house" one develops certain expectations. For starters, I would expect them to have a larger-than-normal draught beer selection. Furthermore, I'd expect them to have a carefully curated offering. Instead, the beer selection here reads more like a night at a college frat party and it's Big Beer as far as the eye can see. Here is the Boondocks draught list: Ug's Chug AmerBock (ABInbev product labeled as a house beer) Woodchuck Pale Cider (C&C Group) Goose Island Honker's Ale (ABInbev) Red Hook IPA (Craft Brew Alliance, 32% ABInbev owned) Longboard Landshark (ABInbev) Kona Brewing Company Longboard Lager (Craft Brew Alliance, 32% ABInbev owned) Landshark Lager (ABInbev) Shocktop (ABInbev) Bud Light (ABInbev) Are you kidding me? You call yourself a draft house and this is your beer list? Not a single Florida beer to be found. Don't get me wrong, both Goose Island and Red Hook make respectable products, but c'mon. Places like Boondocks throwing around the term "draft house" without being able to live up to the name are doing customers a disservice. Moving on. I really liked the feel of the place. After all, we were in the Keys (this place is located on Ramrod Key), and the more time we could spend out of doors the better. The large, open-air bar is great for just such a thing and even the high-top tables and their padded stools were comfy. Another note, the bathrooms were impeccably clean. I'm talkin clean enough that I actually commented to my wife about them. A restaurant's bathroom says alot about it. The timing of our visit was between lunch and dinner so the crowds were pretty sparse. There were a few people lazily nursing beers at the bar and another party seated at a table just behind us, but for the most part it was empty. As soon as we sat down we were greeted by our server. He was friendly, very laid back and took our drink orders immediately. The menu at Boondocks is rather large. It's got your typical bar fare like wings and burgers with a few island specialties you probably aren't used to seeing if you live in the midwest like me - conch fritters and fresh fish selections like hogfish and tripletail. Here's how our meal went: Cuban Conch Chowder - I was excited to try this as I had never had conch before. It was OK. Had I not known what it was I would have assumed it was just vegetable soup. Tasty enough and well seasoned, just not as unique as I expected. Heirloom Spinach Walnut and Blueberry Salad - A fresh and delicious combination of red and green spinach leaves tossed with feta cheese crumbles and more blueberries than I've ever seen on a salad. If you dig blueberries you'll dig this salad. The raspberry walnut vinaigrette was good just very, very sweet. Fuji Apple Chicken Salad - There was alot going on in this salad. Romaine, iceberg, and mixed greens made up the bed. Add carrots, red cabbage, grape tomatoes, green onions, blue cheese, candied pecans and Fuji apples and it's quite a mix. The chicken was cold and clearly out of a bag and, once again, the apple vinaigrette was cloyingly sweet. Overall, Boondocks is a solid option for decent bar food in a themed restaurant with plenty to keep the kids occupied while you rest your roadweary body. As others have also mentioned it's pet friendly which I particularly don't care for since I don't like having dogs around me while I'm eating. But if that's your thing I guess it'll make you happy.

Come for the putt putt :) This place has done a lot of expansion over the years and has really grown from a little tiki bar to a massive restaurant. Great atmosphere and the food is decent. I'd give it four stars, but for some reason I always have a bit of a stomach ache after eating here (which isn't a frequent thing for me). I still keep going back thou, so that must mean something.

Overcharge - not a mistake! We have been here many times and the food is good, but there's a real problem in the staffing and service end of the biz. Overcharge "mistakes" on 4 recent visits including a three-in-a-row on the last three. All different servers but the same exact "mistake"??? Just my wife and me, ordering two dinners, with a house salad and soft drink added on to each. A simple check by all accounts. When ordering a dinner, the add-on salad is $3.99 but instead we get charged the full $5.99 price every time. The tab comes and since we first noticed the error we now check it every time and have to ask that it be corrected. On our last visit I set a bit of a trap to see if I could determine if the server deliberately used the higher price. I put the credit card with the dinner tab and when the server came to pick it up, I pointed at the tab and started to say "uh .... " and paused. In a split second the server said "oh, I'll fix that", took the tab and card, and returned with the correct total rung up and an apology for the "mistake". So now I strongly suspect that this is a chronic issue and probably deliberate. It adds $4 to the bill and an additional $1 to the tip for a 2-person table like ours. I find the frequency to be the most disturbing thing. It's pointing to this "mistake" being used as a fleecing tool. Do they train servers to do this? If you go, watch your tab and report it here if they try to fleece you in the same way.

We went to Boondocks for dinner last night. What an amazing experience! The restaurant was clean and staff extraordinarily friendly. Chad the manager was training our server, Frank. Both were very attentive and helpful. Chad even shared some fishing tips with us. Their conch fritters were to die for as was the key lime pie and chocolate pudding cake. Their fries are clearly homemade and went great with their homemade tartar sauce. I had fried hogfish with crab/cream topper. It was cooked to perfection. My husband had blackened grouper with a shrimp topper. It was also top notch. We loved the ambiance as well. It was well shielded from the sun, yet we still enjoyed outside dining. I can't wait to come back.

Roadside bar/attraction (attraction because they do have a putt putt course). We stopped in for a late dinner and drinks while we were staying in the area. The service was great, 4 stars. The food was plated really well, but wasn't terribly impressive, 3 stars. The mixed drinks were strong and not terribly pricey. The wine pour was hefty. They have live entertainment and if other bands are as talented as the one we saw that evening, it's worth the visit just for the music. Fun Southern rock well suited to the Keys vibe. If you're staying in the area and want a very casual meal and drinks, it's a good choice.

Stopped here on a whim on the way from Key West back to Miami. Great service, huge menu with great food. If you get the pleasure of having Jessica as a server, she's super sweet. Will definitely come back next time we drive down to the Keys.

Lower in this review is the one I did earlier the same evening. I realize that I went to a restaurant/bar/mini golf place expecting a very good meal. While the meal was bland, you can't really expect Michelin star food next to a mini golf course. I stand by my review regarding the food, but I originally gave the place two starts. That's not entirely fair. The food gets two stars, but the overall experience gets five stars. Because I can't give it 3-and-a-half stars, I rounded to 4. After dinner, I took our kids and the rest of the group home. Then, my wife and I came back to enjoy the live music. I would love to get the album this group cut a few years ago. Their name was "Good Company." They were eclectic, entertaining, and basically just fantastic. The live music and quick drink service combo was awesome. I wouldn't recommend you eat the food here, but by all means, drink the drinks and enjoy the show. This bar has it going on. PREVIOUS REVIEW: The soda was delicious...that was all. I was with a party of 8, and we had a large sampling of starters, salads and main courses. It was he same complaint every time: no seasoning. The porterhouse was tough and tasted boiled. It was clearly grilled, but it may have been on the grill on a low setting for quite some time. The stuffed mushrooms were not very good at all. The stuffing was made with sub-par crab, and the mushroom caps were basically raw. I could go on and on about each individual dish, but suffice it to say, none were outstanding. Come for the drinks and ambiance, but eat before you arrive.

I have been to this restaurant a couple times and as always, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was prompt and friendly. They have live bands which go with the whole laid back atmosphere. Oh and P.S. the Cat 5 Hurricane drink is a strong one. I strongly advise a D.D. if drinking more than one of these bad boys.

Love the live music and the ambiance. The bam bam shrimp tacos are the absolute best tacos I've ever had. I get them every time I go because they are so delicious! The drink selection is just okay.... They kinda skimp on the booze in the mixed drinks and they are fairly weak, also if you order a Rum and Coke they ask you if Pepsi is okay... I dunno, to me you can't have a Rum and Coke without Coke. Overall though I love this place!

My dad, daughter and I went here for lunch while on vacation. I was taken aback at how large it was compared to the pictures. It was a weekday and the place was mostly empty. This was good since my daughter is like an endless ball of energy and needs to run. I got the duck bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. My dad got the fried fish. My daughter got grilled cheese. All three entrees were delicious. I was surprised at how good the duck bacon was. Don't get me wrong, it was nowhere near as good as regular bacon so get that thought out of your head. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever compare with real bacon. I digress.... Fried fish was good, but not mind blowing. My daughters grilled cheese was really good. I had to keep myself from eating it. French fries were very good too. All in all, a very nice experience. I really enjoyed the whole wall of flat screen TVs in the dining room on the lower level. Very nice touch especially since the Olympics were on. I'd say this place rates a solid 4.5 stars. I took half a star away because it was so big that it took away from the small cozy feel that I prefer. Service was great.

I had a ruben sandwich, my wife had the fresh fish catch of the day (grouper) in the form of a sandwich, and we both had iced tea. Really good food - big portions, and great presentation. Server was really friendly, and the restaurant itself is awesome - a big, sprawling tiki hut with open-air walls all around, and a ton of TV sets (most on the lower level) showing various sports channels. Plus, they have a really nice mini golf course right next door! The only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of a 5 was because of the $18 sticker shock we got when the bill finally came for my wife's fish meal. Without a doubt, that was the most expensive fish sandwich she ever ate!

Nice atmosphere for a Monday evening. Live music, assuming open mic night. friendly staff and great service. Drinks aren't too bad either.. Fresh fish caught and served daily.. Thatched open air roof and cool appearance, exactly the type of place your looking for on a relaxing vacation..Good Conch Fritters, decent burgers, and great catch of the day Fish entrees..

Big open place with lots to consume...food, drink, media, etc. in abundance! Great service from Jake! BFD Burger was moist and very tasty! Sliders were good with a Hawaiian sweet roll bun. Proportions were spot on. Drinks were appropriately powerful and the lava cake dessert was presented impressively and tasted perfect! The manager checked to ensure we were doing well but Jake was never far away and kept us covered!

I'm sorry I come here every year and it use to be so great! They had karaoke all the time now they have a live band that screams through the restaurant so we can't hear each other talk. The light is so dim I couldn't even read the menu. Disappointed beyond belief. The wait staff was amazing and hard working though. Very wonderful

Ended up here since there is literally nothing else in the area. We had dinner plans further down the road so we only stopped for a couple drinks. The bartender could not have been nicer along with a couple of the other staff members who kept us entertained. There was a cover band playing downstairs in the restaurant and the upstairs bar area was spacious and very chill. Kinda funny they have mini golf here too, would have been a fun drunk activity. The drink specials were touristy and overpriced but strong. I had a couple fruity bullshits and enjoyed myself. Actually this was probably one of my favorite bars we visited on the trip (including Key West and Miami). Thanks Keith and Chad!

Like many other places in the keys this ones overpriced for what you get. The menu is limited and the so called draft house has a horrible selection of domestics with little to no craft beers. Unless you call Crap Top of Spew Moon craft beer. There is no local discounts and no military. The service was so-so. I prefer the Looe Key Resort Tiki to this place and you don't have to sit on the bar side to get the happy hour specials.

Got here and put name on waiting list, which they said the wait would be 30 minutes. An hour later, I checked with the hostess to see how much longer. My name was never on the list. They quickly gave us a table outside just minutes before a thunderstorm came. We left five minutes later hungry and disappointed. Too bad it's not possible to give out zero stars.

So let's see what we are working with here, boondocks... Miniature golf course.. Check. A ton of flat screens... Check. Pet friendly... Check. Clean bathrooms... Check. Two types of soap in the bathroom... Check. Great service... Check. Perfect outdoor seating... Check. $2 mimosas all day on Sundays... Check. So far so good! I ordered the Mahi Mahi blackened sandwich and it was average. Not bad, not amazing but if I had to I would order it again. I also ordered the chili cheese fries and it was more cheese than anything else so if you're in the mood to clog your arteries, make sure to order it.

Stopped in for lunch and had the Hogfish sandwich with potato salad and a beer. The hogfish was really good and there was a lot of fish. This was the second time I've been here and the food was good last time as well. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if it was possible.

A very cool place for grabbing a beer and enjoying band. Our family stopped in for dinner before leaving the Keys. Was very busy. After being seating, our waiter quickly tended to our drink order. Then waited for him to return for food order. Finally returned, we ordered salads and chowder. Then after some time another waiter came by to ask if we had been waited on. Then a waitress came by asked if we had been waited on. She had us repeat our orders even though we said another waiter had taken. Finally food arrived. Clam chowder very good. Nice place but disorganized.

Needed a break from driving so we stopped at Boondocks. This is a really interesting place, a mini gold place with a gigantic outdoor bar. The whole place is cool looking, like a tropical tiki bar and hut. The service a the bar was ok and the drink menu looked alright but I was not impressed with the beer menu. If you call yourself a draft house, I would expect a pretty large beer selection. They did not have a large or interesting beer selection. My husband had the house beer and I had a Key Lime Martini and then we hit the road.

The moment we walked in we were instantly greeted by the staff, so a great first impression. Our server, Kim, was very friendly and accommodating, giving me the hot water I needed for my tea (I was falling asleep at the wheel and I'm not a coffee person, and very picky on tea, so I carry my own tea when needed). Delicious food. The potato balls were perfectly fried and amazingly cheesy. Lobster corn cakes had a lovely taste profile that blended well with the mango on top. A bit pricey but definitely worth it. We tried the catch of the day fish sandwiches. The ranch and bacon potato salad was a nice twist on the average potato salad, and as I had appetizers I wasn't able to finish my sandwich, it was very delicious as a left over. The environment was comfortable, though from what I saw most seats were high topped type seats, so keep that in mind if you have limitations. Music not too loud but not too soft for the experience. The abundance of fans helped keep the hot, humid air cool. Over all I would definitely eat there again if given a chance.

I've visited Boondocks several times over the last few years. If you're looking for simple American food, i.e. Hamburger or just coming for drinks & music, this place will suit you fine. They have a fun putt putt golf area too! However, if you want to treat yourself to a great meal, I suggest dining at the Square Grouper restaurant (few miles closer to Key West) instead. FYI, I ordered chicken wings here on my last visit and the sauce tasted awful!

This is one of our favorite places in the lower keys. If you have been here years ago, the place is all new now -- much bigger and nicer. Not only is the food good, but there is a regular schedule of live music and other entertainment. Check their website for details of what is coming up. Tonight I had something new to me -- Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese. Wow. It was awesome. Highly recommended. Boondocks was quite busy, even late on a Monday night. Depending on what entertainment is scheduled, the place can get packed.

Boondocks is what it is supposed to be. Great place to come with the family, play a few rounds of min putt with and head into the bar for food and adult beverages. Pretty simple pub grub and strong drinks. Hogfish was the fish of the day and I got it blackened as a sandwich, we also had an assortment of appetizers. We had a big group with 7 adults and 5 kids ranging from 2 to 9, the kids' menu had something for all of them and they served everything up quickly and kept the drinks full. Not a place I would go for an intimate dinner by any means, but that is not what it is supposed to be, so definitely a place I would return with a big group and kids.

Very nice place with great food and a great atmosphere. While prices are moderate food portions could be a little bigger however they are delicious. My advice is to order the fresh catch of the day as it never disappoints. Drinks are well made and priced reasonably. Definitely a recommended spot.

We decided to stop here for lunch while driving home from Key West after hearing many positive comments. Our server was very friendly and attentive which made it a great experience. They offer a very large menu consisting of great options from sandwiches to salads. Be sure to listen for any possible specials as well. We both personally ordered burgers, they were both great! Cooked perfect and tasty. Keep in mind for only 39 cents you can upgrade your side to waffle fries or potato salad, both were very good. I also ordered a side Caesar Salad and it was delicious, was a pleasant surprise being served on a cold salad plate with a cold fork as well. This spot looks great for a fun night out with friends, they offer live music as well. We will be coming back during another Keys trip for sure!

By far one of the best restaurants in the Keys. Everything on the menu is outstanding! Atmosphere is top notch! Awesome staff led by Chad and great owners!! Highly recommend stopping here anytime you are traveling to the Keys.

Played mini golf and ate here while on vacation. Not bad at all. We are vegetarians and had trouble eating in general on vacation. Hubby had Mac and cheese and enjoyed it I had a salad with pecans, goat cheese golden beets etc and was very good. They had a veggie burger not on the menu but we decided to order something else. Prices were good. Drinks good too with speciality menu. Open air dining. TV's all over the place. Very casual and a place almost anyone could enjoy.

It's a good place for the younger crowd in the evenings. There are large crowds and music. the food is ok. not great. but ok. I stopped by for lunch and was taken aback by the piped in loud tenny-bopper music which is very distasteful to me and I think for most adults. The staff tries too hard. While the wait for food can be long and drawn out, they seems to hover over you, asking your opinion of food and service, trying to clear your table before you are ready. Quite frankly, they are a hard working group with out a classy manager to bring them up a notch. But, they seem to be doing well. Maybe it's the only game in town scenario.

Me and my bf and his family came here for lunch on a weekend getaway. Our waiter was really nice and prompt, and she made some rather good suggestions. The crab and asparagus soup was to die for. I had the mahi mahi sandwich with the potato salad, it was really good. My bf had the pulled pork sandwich though and said it was nothing to write home about. There were chicken wings ordered by dad and they were tiny. The bill was kind of outrageous and we didn't even drink. The key lime pie was a lil on the frozen side and I felt like it came out of a box. All in all it was ok.

Food is absolutely horrible and the drinks are watered down.... I live close to this place and have tried multiple times to give them a shot, but food is an epic failure every time. Last time, the manager even told us he was going to have our meal re-cooked and never even showed back up with it....Tuesdays are fun for Bingo and the floor staff are super-friendly..... But skip the food and cocktails :/

My family and I visited in the middle of July so we were slightly disappointed to find no AC! We sat near the bar area where smoking is apparently allowed despite the fact that food was being served (we were with our 8 month old at the time). Luckily there was only 1 smoker who left shortly after our arrival. Our service was a bit slow but the food was great. My husband ordered the hogfish (catch of the day) and it was as light and delicate as described. I had the chopped salad with added chicken and was not disappointed. Overall, we left satisfied even if it meant sweating.

Boondocks is a great casual family place. Good food at a good price. They typically have great live music that will keep adults and kids alike entertained. Boondocks has wonderful burgers for the land lubber. They have a large salad menu and a great fresh catch menu. The best part of boondocks is the outdoor dining experience. The place is one large tiki hut! You can even finish up your night with a game of mini golf with the family. To those over worked moms and dads out there they have a full bar at mini golf!!!

Used to absolutely love this place. And while the food is still pretty good - the hogfish sandwich is absolutely huge and delicious and the cole slaw, in my opinion, is the best in the Lower Keys - however, the service leaves much to be desired. Fix that, Boondocks!

We came here after an afternoon of snorkeling on Looe Key and were hungry and thirsty. Expectations were very low as there was a gift shop right as we entered that just screamed TOURIST TRAP!! Also, the waiter was either drunk, hungover or both and was a bit belligerent towards us. Final insult was a Shania Twain cover band. However, after a round of beers and some smoked fish dip (very good, not as good as the Wharf's), things improved dramatically! The on tap beer selection was great - I enjoyed several Shock Tops and the BF had an IPA - Dogfish Head maybe? The gluten-ites in the group had margaritas made with "grandma" - extra shot of Grand Marnier. A few not-too-sweet fruity martinis were also had. The prices were good - food a little over priced, drinks dramatically underpriced. I think the margaritas made with top shelf liquor were $9. Hello! Or should I say, HOLA!

A great tourist spot, not so popular amongst the locals. You'll find decent fare and anything you could want from a full service bar. Also has the only miniature golf course around and a souvenir shop. Live music is hit or miss with quality so google the band before ya spend an evening there.

Odd Vibe. This place looks cool but it had a strange night club vibe to it. The main stage were the entertainment plays looked like something out of Vegas. Plasma TVs, fancy lights, and big stage. It just seemed odd and out of place for a joint under a Tiki hut located in the keys. I had one beer and left. I really didn't give this place a chance but it really didn't meet my expectations for a great Keys Tiki Hut Bar. Stay Hungry!

Ordered the stuffed shrimp with crab mean and it was a delicious meal. The lobster sauce added great flavor. The cheese fries were great, with lots of cheese in top. The drinks were ok but I would recommend the food. The miniature golf was fun. Will come back here when coming back to the keys.

My boyfriend and I had Christmas dinner hear, admittedly only because it was close to the KOA we stayed at and I knew it was open. I am so glad I found this place. Much less crowded then down closer to Key West but still has the wide open, airy tiki hut feel to it. We sat at the bar and had the best service possible. We had tasty Mai Tais and never had to ask for refills. We had the crab and asparagus soup which is amazing with a huge amount of crab, definitely worth getting. I had the stuffed shrimp and my boyfriend got the sesame crusted tuna. Both were excellent and I would recommend to anyone.

A couple decades ago, there was a place in Key West called Magic Carpet Golf. It held two incredible 18-hole courses with cool twists and turns - windmills, frogs, Easter Island statues - just mini-golf craziness. It was awesome. Well, through the primrose lens of nostalgia, I remember it as having been awesome, anyway. The 18-hole course attached to Boondocks isn't quite as inspiring as that one was, but it offers some fun holes, many that present the golfer with a choice - play it safe, or flirt with disaster and go for that hole in one. Given the typically flimsy mini-golf putters provided that don't allow for the greatest aiming, with most of these holes, your best option is to play it safe, because the gonzo option is almost always absurdly difficult. I play real golf every week, and I even had a hard time getting the ball to go precisely where I wanted it to. Still, I was able to shoot "under par" both rounds I played - and yes, I even lucked out once and scored a hole in one. I'd say the "greens fee" is a little on the steep side, but if you make it through one round and want to play again, you can do so at a drastically reduced price. All in all, worthy entertainment, I'd say.

Boondocks Grill and Draft House on Ramrod Key definitely the place to be if you are driving down to key west and get hungry along the way it's cool out doors and super delicious things you half to try are the Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms, and the Crabby Mac, also the Stuff Shrimp but what made the night was how friendly our server Adam he was really nice and my drink was never empty and we were asked several times how our food was it was great service it was a great way to spent dinner and end the night :)

REVIEWING MINI GOLF ONLY Wife and I mini-golf pretty often, and this was one of the best maintained courses we've ever played. Full bar, too, so you can get your drink on - wife didn't drink, and man did my score suffer. Whatever, we had a blast. Holes are a little simple, but the landscaping is beautiful. We were expecting a tourist trap, and were pleasantly surprised.

Lobster bisque is great but last couple times we had to send the food back due to the meat being way under cooked. I enjoy a burger medium rare but this was actually raw. I took a huge bite and thought i was actually going to get sick. The service is not good it took about 12 minutes for them to greet us and sit us down the place was not busy at all. The mini golf course is very cool and we do like to go there at least once a month. It's walking distance from our home that's another reason i was so disappointed it would have been nice to have a restaurant to walk to in the summer months. We will continue to golf there but after three times trying it and having problems i think we are done the price of the food should guarantee that it be good and cooked to the correct temperature. I was worried that I was going to be sick lucky for me i did not

Great food. Two of us had fresh caught hogfish (pepper lime and the other blackened) which was delicious. Chopped salad with shrimp was great too. Even the broccoli was tender which almost never happens. Wonderful key lime martini and a healthy pour of Chardonnay. Great food. Atmosphere nice with open air seating, but bar area allows smoking, so sit in dining area. Our server, Nancy was a fabulous, no-nonsense gal. Ask to sit in her section!

They had a multiple TV display on the lower seating are, plenty of seating available and still the place was packed. The food was really good. The crab & asparagus soup was so creamy delish! It's the "best in the world!" according to our waitress. It was darn good. Had me a seared Ahi tuna sandwhich withhoney soy sauce. It was great. The caesar salad was mediocre. Their homemade potato chips in truffle oil were nice. Homemade potato salad with bacon also very good. Friend said his Mahi Mahi sandwhich was amazing. The Key Lime martini was gross. Cat 5 hurricane was a crowd pleaser however. Had to rush through dinner to make it to the putt-putt course which was within stones throw, since they close promptly at 10. Fun way to walk off and digest the meal. $10 for an 18 hole course takes you an hour with 3 people.

A bit pricey for what you are getting, but the food and drinks are good! The place is also open until 11pm, which is 1 hour later than most restaurants in the area. During our drive down to Key West, we found ourselves in this area at around !0:30pm and we were hungry to say the least. Being the only place open this late we had no other option, at first that worried us a bit but without any other options we had to bite the bullet. We ordered some Margaritas and an order of Conch fritters to start of with as well as a Grouper Sandwich and a Black Grouper Entree; both were cooked perfectly and very tasty. As mentioned before, we are not sure we will ever be here again, since nothing in the area really had us intrigued. But I can assure you one thing, on any future drive where we might even be slightly hungry, we will consider stopping by again to revisit and retry this spot.

Boondocks has really good food, but the prices are kind of ridiculous. $10 for conch fritters? $18 for fresh catch sandwich? We had the mahi entree' and mahi sandwich, seafood stuffed mushrooms, and key lime pie. They all were delicious! The mahi was super fresh and well prepared. Draft beer was reasonably priced, Red Hook for $3.50. The atmosphere is a bit on the Applebee's side.

A good place for a meal (and if you're in the mood, some mini golf: yelp.com/biz/boondocks-m… ). We stopped in for lunch and managed to sit out a brief spot of rain. Our server, Stephen, was a nice guy, even chatting with us after we finished our dessert. I tried the Black & Bleu Burger, but with a chicken breast substitution. Not sure this was the best idea, maybe bleu cheese works better on a burger than on chicken. But the bacon and chicken were tasty, and the potato salad on the side was good stuff yelp.com/biz_photos/3gl2… My wife had a blackened mahi mahi sandwich, which she enjoyed, and the fries were a hit too. yelp.com/biz_photos/3gl2… To drink, she had a key lime margarita(?), which was rather thick, and tasted just like key lime. I tried the local, Ug's Chug, which was like a Bass ale, but a little sweeter. nice. for dessert we split a turtle cheesecake. wow, caramel and cheesecake. mmmm.... yelp.com/biz_photos/3gl2… Good selection of beers, and a nice relaxing place to have lunch. and then off to the mini golf. On the day we went, the restaurant was populated by snowbirds, while bikers would pull into the parking lot. Note: they don't take Amex, though they Second Note: Boondocks is located on Ramrod Key, despite what Yelp says. Right at Mile Marker 27.5 - can't miss it.

Me and my gang (Sharon W who also posted on Boondocks) stumbled across this place after a snorkel-dork day on Looe Key. Agreed - hungry and thirsty. The service was a bit iffy, as our waiter was either drunk or hungover; his humor didn't really go over too well with our group, however we were able to coerce him to take a pic of us, so he earned a star there. In addition, he did manage to talk me into a Grand Marnier margarita - good choice after spending the whole afternoon in the sun. After a few, things were feeling alright. I found the food to be a bit overpriced for what it was and how it was served - I order the fish dip and it literally felt/tasted like expensive tuna fish, served on saltines and club crackers. So, that was a buzz kill - but it did hit the spot after a few of those Grand-Ma margs. The Shania Twain cover band did keep me entertained and was not as offensive; however I am unsure as to how much that did for drumming up the crowd. We left the restaurant before Steven Tyler/Aerosmith cover band came on - which might've kicked it up a few notches. There is a mini-golf course right next to Boondocks and we all had the best intentions of playing until the drinks really started kicking in. I'm guessing that a round of golf might've kicked this review up to 4 stars.

  • Dennis W.

Ummm, no. The best thing here was the cold beer. I ordered the BBQ sandwich...bland like right out of a can. Service was very slow... It was a rainy day, not a lot of people so I'm not quite sure what the hold up on the crap food was. Will not be back for food.

Great tuna dish. Ambiance is great. Missing the water effect but the oversized tiki hut of a place is cool. Wednesday night trivia annoying it alienates patrons that aren't playing.

Not bad. But not great. Got the lobster bisque- was cold. My husband got the hogfish sandwich- it was flavorless. The local was great and the ambiance was very nice.

    (3)
  • Bill C.

Not too bad, not all that good, but then, not just right either. It's got the cool look and atmosphere thing going on. Service by a very attractive waitress was friendly, but decidedly mediocre; or maybe just a little too laid-back. Food was above mediocre, some pretty good (there was 5 of us). Drinks were definitely overpriced. Not a bad place to unwind a little going north away from Key West craziness.

  • Katy C.

This was a fun place. We went there for dessert and drinks. You could tell the desserts were not homemade at all. Straight out of the freezer. The best ones were the chocolate lava cake and the chocolate pudding cake. Our server, Dawn, was very nice and friendly. They also had live music. I would definitely go back here.

  • Tiffany I.

We stopped here on our way home from Key West, this was our 2nd stop on our conch fritter finding adventure. Don't waste your time if your looking for good food. Conch fritters were horrible, no conch, no taste! The smoked fish dip wasn't bad, it was ok. This place is well worth it for drinks, we ordered 2 rum runners which were like $8 and added a shot of 151 for $1. If you want some cheap good drinks stop here, if you want food pass it up.

Really love Boondocks. They have great food and their staff is friendly. It's pricier than other places, so if you want to splurge on a night out, go for it. The bathroom is very nice with sea salt rub for your hands. There's bar video games, which we always love. They serve pitchers of beer in containers with a cold center, which is really nice. Lots of TVs for game watching. Pass on the putt putt...really expensive and not worth the money. Drinks at the putt putt bar are a little on the pricey side, as well. Good food, though!

I live in Cudjoe gardens not far from Boondocks haven't been there for a year until last night. what a disappointment , until last night one of my favorite places. Some how they have beeb able to take a great burger and turn it into a small tatesless brillo pad on a dry white bun an turned great hancut french fries into cardboard tasting waffle fries probably fro Sysco. The bottled beer is still ok so I survived but won't be back to eat only for the beer. Glad we still have the Square Grouper a few miles away.

Lots of fun! This is a large open air restaurant that clearly caters to the vacation crowd. Fun 'south seas tiki hut' decor, with a number of televisions above the bar so you can follow news/sports. Lots of good drinks to be had. Everyones food was tasty and well prepared. They have live music in the evening and there were many people in the gray haired set out there dancing the night away. That being said, my 7 year old daughter had fun too. They served her food on a frisbee, and it was one of her favorite souvenirs from our trip. There is miniature golf outside. I'm dinging them a point because our server was somewhat inattentive. He was friendly enough, but I think he was doing double duty as a bartender that night. Definitely worth a stop.

  • Donna K.

Don't Waste Your Money Food is just average, so over priced for what it is. There are so many better options nearby. Drinks stink. Service was adequate. $30 for two adults and a child to play mini golf? And they don't even give you a free game for a hole in one on the 18th hole!

    (1)
  • Stephanie D.

Don't waste your money! Nineteen dollars for an average (at best) fish sandwich? I think not, at least never again! My husband ordered a pork bar-b-que sandwich and didn't think it was very good. It also looked skimpy...but the price tag was not small. There are simply too many places in the Keys to get great seafood and the check total won't leave you looking for a bank to rob to pay the tab. The shrimp and such that's available at happy hour are supposed to be good; but I don't plan on ever going back to try again. It's pretty to sit in but don't eat there unless you have way more money than sense.

    (1)
  • Joe W.

Avoid the place on the weekend, and I would only recommend hitting them during their Happy Hour from 4-6pm on Weekdays. It is about the only time you will get anywhere near your money's worth.

Took my Naturalist Journeys tour group here for lunch as there was a lot of shade under that tiki hut on a hot afternoon. Plenty of ceiling fans kept it cool, but the music was very loud in the bar area. Could've sat in the downstairs area, but that had a concrete floor and plastic chairs, not the best setting. Our waitress (Nichole) turned the music down a bit when asked and was incredibly efficient and attentive. Repeated everyone's order before putting it into the computer - that meant no mistakes. For the most part the food was nothing special, but it was good. Two items that were outstanding were their Bang-Bang shrimp (we double ordered after the first round, it was that good!) and the crab-asparagus soup. Easy place with consistently good food...

  • Chris H.

Good food selection, friendly service, and good food. One of the better places in the area. Has a putt-putt connected, a gift shop and tons of TVs. Took our kids there twice. All seating is outside but under cover. Not too hot but given you are outside, no air conditioning. We were in town for a week and went there twice since we liked it the first time.

Pulled into Boondocks on route 1 after reading Yelper's recommendation of "Lobster Reuben" and another of the bang bang shrimp. So lobster Reuben only during lobster fest and not on regular menu. We settled for a burger, huge plate of stringy onion rings, the bang bang shrimp (which was good) and slice of caramel crunch cake. Big menu so you're likely to find something good. Waitress Kim was very attentive. Probably worth a stop by next time. Nice open air bar grill atmosphere and the nicest restrooms in the Keys. Pull over Rt. 1 and check it out!

Love Boondocks. We have been there several times on our last 2 visits to the Keys. We always sit at the bar, and the service is always excellent--friendly and efficient. Not a terribly exciting draft selection, but we can usually find something that is tasty enough. Always enjoy the food, particularly the Bang Bang Shrimp and seared tuna dish. Look forward to kicking off our Keys visits here for many years to come.

Always a favorite stop on our yearly trip to KW. My wife and I always fly into Lauderdale and drive the last 190 miles so we can see the sights. We found this place by doing just that. It is a huge looking Tiki Hut, right by the road. Who the hell can pass up a Tiki Hut in the keys when you are thirsty?? Every time we have stopped it has been great. I cant really comment on the food, except for the wings. They are decent, but we always just stop to have one or 10 beers for the last 27 miles into town. Great atmosphere, good service, warm breezes and cold beer. Ahh, what else could you want?

Fun atmosphere and decent food with prices to match. There will be a wait especially on weekends but seeing its one of the only major restaurants in the area, its understandable and not normally too long to stick it out. After dinner cocktails did leave something to be desired unfortunately. I had the mint chocolate chip (thinking it would taste more like the ice cream, but it didn't, so at $9 a pop, I'd skip that next time). Overall it was a good time, went on a night they were having a trivia night so it was definitely interactive and entertaining.

Dolloar mimosas are great. 39 cent wings even better. Lots of outdoor seating. If you're looking for a spot to throw back a beer and grind on some wings while on a 3 hr drive down to Key West, this is the place to stop.

The usual fare taken up a notch in flavor and quantity, not to mention psychic waitresses, all under an enormous tiki hut. My dining companion had nachos and I had a good old American hamburger and they were both very tasty and filling. He was also happy to find Grolsch on tap there. The place was crowded and we had a bit of a wait but the experience overall was pleasant. Our wait person was one of those real pros who know what you want before you even have a chance to ask for it. The bar occupies one half of the establishment and they have daily bar specials. They also own the adjacent miniature golf course in case you need to digest your dinner afterwards. It is touted as the only one in the Keys, which I imagine is true! All in all, a happy, casual place to dine at on your way down to or back from Key West.

Food has gone downhill in a hurry. Great place for a drink and happy hour ( 1/2 price apps) but not much else. We'be been coming here for a while and food used to be much better. Miss the old boondocks.

  • Ryan D.

I've been going to Boondocks for well over 9 years. The place is not what it used to be. I remember when they had 12 tales, no bar, no patio, and no walls. I loved it then. The grouper sandwiches were 8.00 and the beers were nice and cold. The servers now are snotty and the atmosphere isn't much different than any other hokey place in the lower keys. The conch fritters are still pretty damn good though. Also, the karaoke is amusing on a weeknight during the off season. I guess change is inevitable and things could be worse.

Went there 09/17/11 with a party of 17 (GulfShore Mustang Club). Food was prepared and presented in a timely manner. All orders were prepared correctly with no problems. Service was attentive and cordial. Everyone was satisfied with Boondocks. I would recommend this restaurant and will visit them again when in the Keys.

Was told not to be afraid of this place and I'm glad I listened. Their Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is absolutely delicious. You can either sit on the patio to enjoy a local band or up in the bar, surrounded by TVs displaying every sports game playing at the moment.

Neat place on the way to Key West or coming back from. Kind of a tourist trap style restaurant. Food was above average, drinks were reasonably priced, service was not all that great. Been here a few times.

A+ for atmosphere. Typical touristy open air bar. Friendly staff. Spotless bathrooms. Food is just ok, but happy hour is a lot of fun with half price apps from 4-6pm, plus drinks and beer are very inexpensive! Definitely worth a stop in after the beach or just for some drinks and snacks.

My husband and I were on our way down to Key West for an evening of drinking and wanted something fun to do when I saw a sign for Boondocks miniature golf. On first looks, the course did not seem that challenging. On most holes there was a pretty straight shot to the final hole. But when you took the shot the ball would start moving away from where you aimed because all of the holes were leveled funny. Watch the holes, there are a couple that have goofy paths that you might not expect. I always enjoy miniature golf so I generally have fun a like everyone one that I have been to. But, I also got to beat my husband so this course will always have a special place in my heart.

We stopped here on the way back from Bahia Honda. I was absolutely starving, and this place did not disappoint. The dolphin sandwich was my favorite I've had in Florida. They also had a tuna steak sandwich that was really unusual but delicious. I would highly recommend the restaurant.

My wife and I were traveling with our kids age 7 and 11 as well as our small dog. The patio area is dog friendly and the staff was very helpful. They didn't have a table ready but quickly pulled a table up and got us set up. My wife had the coconut shrimp, I had the spinach salad with fresh blueberries with added blackened chicken. The munchkins had the normal chicken strips. The live band / guitarist was nice. We would recommend. Mile marker 27 on us 1.

Great waiter! Very attentive and quick with a joke! We had a party of 12, but he kept drinks full and food came fairly soon. Food was good, I had grilled chicken and asked for a side of mango salsa (no problem) . My sister had blackened fish, it was a little dry( it was very thin) , difficult to keep warm, and serve all dinners together maybe?
